Flight instructor course / Instrument Rating Instructor / Class Rating Instructor

Here at Pagoda we offer training for the Flight Instructor (Restricted) Rating.

The course is enjoyable, in-depth and rewarding cumulating in the new instructor gaining the skills and knowledge to teach new student pilots and licence holders. The expectation is the student instructor will arrive with a good level of flying ability and theoretical knowledge and they will then be taught how to become an effective flying instructor.

The course consists of a minimum of 125 hours ground school ( some of which may be directed study) and 30 hours of flight instruction. The regulations require certain pre-entry requirements in order to commence the course. These are:

Hold a valid UK pilots licence including a valid single engine piston rating.
Hold at least a CPL(A) or have completed at least 200 hours of flight time, of which 150 hours shall be as pilot in command.
Meet the knowledge requirements for a CPL(A) – unless the instructor will be restricted to teaching for the LAPL only.
Have completed at least 30 hours on SEP aircraft of which at least 5 hours shall have been completed during the six months preceding the pre-entry flight test.
Have received at least 10 hours of instrument flight instruction of which not more than 5 hours may be instrument ground time in a FSTD.
Have completed at least 20 hours of VFR cross country flight as PIC including a flight of not less than 300 nautical miles with stops at 2 airfields other than the airfield of departure.
Have passed a specific pre-entry flight test with a FIC or FIE within 6 months preceding the start of the course. The flight test will be based on the PPL skills test and will assess the ability of the applicant to undertake the course particularly with regards to aeroplane handling.
