PPL and LAPL Training
The Private Pilots Licence is the most commonly acquired recreational flying licence in the UK. For licence issue you must be seventeen years old although training can commence before this age. The licence requires a medical certificate to be issued before solo flight can commence. This can be achieved by contacting Dr Mark Nicol (email: info@aviationmedicalexamination.co.uk , mobile 07973915895) who can help you through the process.
Minimum training requirements for the PPL are 45 hours flight instruction (25 hrs dual and 10 hrs solo) with a 150 nautical mile cross country flight. There are also a number of written exams which need to be passed. In the UK the average time taken for a student pilot to gain their PPL is somewhere in the region of sixty-five hours flight time.
Once you have your licence the PPL will allow you to fly most single engine piston aircraft and due to the PPL being recognised around the world it will allow you to fly abroad. Also, additional ratings and licences such as Instrument, multi-engine, night, instructor or commercial pilots licence can be added to the PPL.

Note, from October 2025 the LAPL licence is no longer issued by the UK CAA hence why no information about it is contained here.
